Anyone else watch The Last Unicorn as a kid? I had to have rented it at least ten times.

After a nightmare where I thought someone was in my apartment, I was laying in a semi-conscious state and it came to mind. If you haven’t seen it, you should. The plot has so much going on I can’t really even begin to explain it, but it should not be confused with Legend.

Rankin-Bass’ animated film based on Peter Beagle’s 1968 novel of the same name that was one of the most emotionally frank, sophisticated and mature G-rated cartoons ever made. (Thanks, Wiki!)

My favorite part to remember and be freaked out about is the gigantic, human-like tree which smothered Schmendreck (the Jewish-stereotype of a wizard) in her breasts. Yes, breasts.

Yeah, I watched it but Flight of the Dragons was my personal obsession. I tried to rewatch it a year back and realized I shouldn’t tarnish childhood memories.

At work, I read (google style) for hours. Lots of interesting but forgettable surveys and tips on how to live my life (ie why I should be unhappy with myself and the world). I started to feel there’s a better way to waste my employer’s money so I’ve begun to write short essays in response.

It’s the one skill I think I’ve remembered from school. I’ve written about intellectual cities, the most compelling figure of the 20th century, the joy of sustainable populations, etc. They’re veritably terrible but I feel better being somewhat productive with my day. And who knows, I may soon write something cohesive enough to share.

Mandated Calorie Counters: Here’s an idea, print that info on the receipt. You’ve obviously got a computer there so use it to do some basic addition. I imagine most people throw all those away as soon as they get it, so might as well put something informative on it. Plus, it will give me something to read while I’m waiting for my triple whopper with bacon.

Options for the 4th:

1. Rothbury. No bands I’m dying to see (unlike pitchfork) and I’ll have to miss most of Thursday and Sunday. But I know some peeps going and camping + music can’t be a bad idea. Also, I don’t have tix but I know someone somewhere can’t make it and is selling it off for like 100 bucks.

2. Friends cottage on Lake Michigan. One of my absolute favorite places in the world (only topped by Jah Peace in Thailand) but my friend has been an asshole since he started law school.

3. Home. Friends are hitting up boats on Portage Lake for the fireworks. My bros working pretty much the whole weekend but the rents will still be rocking out, parent style.

I just torrent’d a copy of MGS2. I may have spent four years in college learning how all of this works but it still blows my mind that someone can rip a game, put it on the internet, I can download it, burn it to a DVD, put it in my xbox, and have it work without a problem. I love technology.
Watching MLS before the Euro final is like eating a Hot Pocket before going out to a fancy steakhouse.
Listening to the new M83, it seems so hauntingly familiar but I’m sure this is the first time I’ve ever listened to them.
Thoughts of grad school continue to sneak into my brain (no more offices, enthusiastic peers, a higher class part of the country) but I have to remind myself that it is a siren call.
My roommate and I were supposed to ride out to South Haven today (70 miles roundtrip!) but it’s noon and threats of rain continue.
