Today I was reading through a bunch of old articles on Slate about how people would rework higher education. This lead to me writing down a big list of things that I would tell myself to do differently in college if I could go back in time. I would chronicle them here but instead, I’ll write down all the stuff I did that I’m glad about cause I’m feeling negative enough about too many other things.
First off, I’m glad I graduated in four years. Much like MJ, I left at the top of my game and another year would only tarnish my reputation and memory. I’m glad I got a technical degree instead of a psych degree as I was planning. If I had, I’d probably not hate my job but only because I couldn’t get one. I’m glad I played a shit ton of video games. Never again will I get to do something so worthless with other people and not feel guilty about it. I’m super fucking glad I went to Germany for that summer. At the time, I had a lot of uncertainty floating in my head about the experience but now I constantly drop the ‘when I was in Germany’ line. I’m glad I stayed in the dorms for three years. I think I’ll have some good friends for life because of that (instead of being stuck with some douchebags in an apt). I’m glad I played as many IM sports as possible. We never won a championship except for that second place in the tennis tourney but that helped establish athletic hobbies for life. Lastly, I’m happy I grew up how I did.
